Andrew Tay was born in Windsor Ontario where he attended the Walkerville Centre for the Creative Arts. Since finishing his B.F.A in contemporary dance at Concordia University, Andrew has had his work presented at Espace Tangente, Studio 303, the National Theatre School, Festival Vue Sur La Releve (Montreal), the Square Zero Dance Festival, (Ottawa) and at La Rotonde (Quebec City).

Residencies have included the Foundation Jean-Pierre Perrault, the summer artist in residency program at studio 303, a week long intensive with Kathy Casey and her dance company Montreal Danse, and most recently, a two-week summer residency at the O Vertigo Centre for creation.

An avid music lover, Andrew has collaborated with members of Montreal based rock group The Arcade Fire and has become known for his intense and emotionally tough creations set to music by long time collaborator vitaminsforyou. Their latest combined effort The Space Between was performed at the Performance Mix Festival in New York City in March 2007 and will be reprised as part of the Neighborhood Dance Works festival in St. Johns this Summer 2009.

In 2005, his work was shown in video form as part of Cirque du Soleil's show Torrida.Collaborating with French visual artists Sophie Dejode and Bertand Lacombe (Floating Land) he presented Dancing is Paradise, an absurd musical comedy set inside a giant fridge at the Skol gallery in January 2007. Since 2005, Andrew and his company Wants&Needs danse (co-founded with Sasha Kleinplatz) have produced the popular dance events Piss in the Pool and Short&Sweet in Montreal.

 
 
 



In 2001 Sasha Kleinplatz received a BFA in Contemporary Dance from Concordia University, where she was honored with the James Saya Award for Excellence.

In 2002 Sasha joined the jury for Espace Tangente's Danse Buissonnieres series, which selects dynamic works from young choreographers to be presented annually at the inauguration of Tangente's season.

In 2004 Sasha along with choreographic partner Andrew Tay, was awarded a creation residency at the Fondation Jean Pierre Perrault during which time they created the work Me and Us which was shown in the Emergence series at Espace Tangente.

Sasha has also shown her work at the National Theatre School, Studio 303, and Studio Mange mes Pieds. In 2005 Sasha participated in the pilot choreographic project of Montreal Danse, where she spent a week creating under the mentorship of Kathy Casey, Phillip Szporer, Larry Lavender, and Susan Marshall.

Sasha has also had a number of successful music and dance collaborations with artists such as Bell Orchestre and vitaminsforyou, with whom she recently completed the work Because We Can (presented at Espace Tangente in the Doubles Territoires series, April 2007).

In 2008 Sasha was part of the Choreographers for choreographers residency at O Vertigo. As well as choreographing Sasha also produces dance shows. In 2004 she conceived of and produced the very successful site specific dance show Piss in the Pool, which has now become an annual Montreal dance event. As a follow up to Piss in the Pool, Sasha (along with Andrew Tay) created the series Short&Sweet: Choreographies that end quickly, which now takes place twice a year in Montreal.
